Who we are
Safe Cities Foundation works at the intersection of urban mobility, spatial planning and civic advocacy. We believe the future of African cities must be shaped by the people who live in them, not by car-centric legacies inherited from elsewhere.
From the streets of Kumasi to communities across sub-Saharan Africa, we partner with governments, development institutions, community groups and residents to reshape the urban experience through research, advocacy and co-design.

What we do
Interconnected programmes driving sustainable, people-centred urban change across Ghana and the wider continent.
We campaign for safe, affordable and sustainable transport: bus rapid transit corridors, pedestrian walkways and cycling infrastructure that serve everyone equally.
We embed in communities to co-design public spaces, markets, transit hubs and streetscapes, so that local knowledge shapes the places people actually live in.
We collect, analyse and publish mobility data to inform policy: commuter patterns, pedestrian safety hotspots and spatial inequity across the city.
Flagship partnership
Under the programme “Enhancing Road Safety in Africa and Eastern Mediterranean Cities,” we worked with KNUST to redesign one of Kumasi's busiest intersections and install new pedestrian signage, improving safety for the thousands who cross it daily.
